Have you read Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts?! I LOVED it!?
Like you I found the book extremely good and it is his life story which makes it fascinating.
It gives a wonderful insight to India and what poverty is like the reality is not pleasant.
I have also seen Greg interviewed when the book first appeared he came across as being really together despite what he went through.
Johnny Depp is playing Gregory in the film which is due for release next year and in order to get in characters spent time living in poverty in Mumbai.
Not sure that I will see the film as I have built up the characters in my imagination and films tend to gloss things abit.
Gregory is involved in the script though and was given the opportunity to be in the film which he turned down.
Wonder who will play Qasim and Abdullah.
India holds a fasination and has a people who may only have a cardboard home but they are never short of hospitality or a wonderful smile, a diverse culture a country you either love or hate or verge on the both.
