Jessica – Bryce Courtenay
Decent book recommendations?
I’m searching for a few new books to read, but I’m having a bit of trouble finding something good. I’ll read about anything that’s well written. Oh and if it helps I’m a sixteen year old girl and a few of my favourite books are:
The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R Tolkien.
Dracula by Bram Stoker.
Emma by Jane Austen.
Jessica by Bryce Courtenay.
This Boy’s Life by Tobias Wolff.
So could anyone please give me some decent book recommendations? Oh and please don’t just give me a huge list of books. Give me a sentence or two on why I should read them.
Oh and when I asked for decent book recommendations, I meant it. Please don’t suggest trash like the Twilight Series or the Inheritance Cycle.
I LOVE Tobias Wolff, by the by…and I agree with recommending H.P. Lovecraft.
Read some Flannery O’Connor. She’s a short story writer and her works are very quirky and powerful.
The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon is one of the best written books I’ve ever read. It’s an alternative history supposing that the state of Israel collapses and the Jews all relocate to Alaska.
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is so, so beautiful in terms of the writing. It’s about a girl who views the lives of her friends and family from heaven after being murdered by a neighbor. It’s just so gorgeous.
